Uni Outreach > Engineering Residential

Description

Subject: Engineering

The Engineering Residential at the University of Exeter lasts for four days, and in that time students experience as many different aspects of ‘student life’ as possible.

Teaching methods include:

  • Mini-lectures
  • Group discussions
  • Practical hands on activities
  • Problem solving tasks and laboratory work

All the classes are taught by friendly members of staff, with the emphasis on activities being fun and interactive.

As well as the academic programme, students have the opportunity to undertake detailed research into where and what they can study at HE level, and how to make the best possible application. They also get the opportunity to explore different progressional paths post-18, and to identify what fits in with their career aspirations.

The residential also gives students a taste of some of the more social aspects of student life. Students have their own common room and get the chance to use facilities including a games arcade, a swimming pool and other sports facilities. There is also a BBQ, a 'chill out' evening with quiz's and videos and a Sports evening. On the last night students have a dinner and disco.

The main aims of the University of Exeter's Residentials are to allow students to experience university life and to convince that going to university can be the best experience of your life.

Target Audience

Year 12 students.
