Subject: Pan-STEM
The University of Bath employs students to work in local schools and colleges to support both teaching and learning in specific subject areas and other activities which include:
- lunchtime / after school clubs
- homework, revision and coursework sessions
- PSHE / tutoring support
The scheme aims to:
- provide positive role models for study in particular subjects and to demonstrate enthusiasm and a positive approach to learning
- provide support with the delivery of the national curriculum
- raise the achievement of those school students involved in the scheme, that are at risk of under-achieving
- help school students acquire and develop study skills in order to improve the effectiveness of their application to their studies
- help raise school students' self-esteem, motivation and confidence
- help raise school students' awareness of their opportunities, in particular of higher education
Student tutors attend a specialised training programme to prepare them for the tutoring role. They receive on-going support to enable them to provide high quality tutoring support to the young people they work with. All student tutors will undergo Criminal Records Bureau Enhanced disclosures.
Target Audience
Years 10 - 13.
