Promoting employer engagement opportunities to employers

Lead Institution: University of Bath

This is a sub-project of Strengthening, extending and embedding employer engagement

Summary

The aim of this project is to promote and show the benefits of engagement between employers and undergraduate students through shared awareness, sponsorship, placements, collaborative projects including knowledge transfer and any other means. Extensive guidance material already exists for employers, however there is a lack of purely promotional material ie. for employers not yet aware or interested in opportunities available to them. This project aims to fill this gap.

Aims & Objectives

  • Review current practice and employer-HEI interfaces in employer engagement (EE) to identify good practice and provide baseline metrics
  • Identify a suite of EE opportunities to increase consistency and collaborative working across departments
  • Analyse the current ‘market’ in EE, the perceived benefits and barriers for both employers and students, then suggest ways to both address issues and capitalise on opportunities to expand engagement
  • Develop appropriately targeted case studies of successful EE for promotional materials (20 employers covering a range of employer types and disciplines)
  • Develop printed and online resources promoting the range of EE opportunities available to employers and the benefits for employers
  • Develop guidelines for staff to assist them in promoting student engagement to employers
  • Suggest ways of linking with and supporting a network of prospective and collaborating employers. This may be through events organised by faculties etc or perhaps by way of participation in networking events organised by others.
