Please note: To access the Training the Trainer resources in full (resources that will upskill you to deliver the Getting Started: A Beginner's Guide to Evaluation training course), you need to join (for free) the National Coordinating Centre for Public Engagement's ning site following the instructions at the bottom of this page.

Course Structure & Learning Outcomes

The Training the Trainers session is a half day course aimed at upskilling staff to deliver the Getting Started: A Beginner's Guide to Evaluation one day course back in their own institutions. As such, its learning outcomes match those of the latter course, namely:

  • Developing an understanding of the value and importance of evaluating HE STEM outreach
  • Understanding the process of successful evaluation and collecting evidence of impact
  • Exploring the issues and challenges of evaluating HE STEM outreach
  • Continuing to develop personal and professional skills - for example, communication, planning and critical reflection
  • Gaining practical experience in developing an evaluation plan and using new, alternative approaches to evaluating public engagement
  • Enhanced understanding of the multiple uses of evaluation including: improving activities; sharing good practice; and reporting
  • Increased confidence in the use of evaluation
