The Student-led Employability Audit Toolkit project at the University of Exeter led to the production of an audit report recommending a range of improvements at module and degree level across Mathematics, Computer Science and Engineering degree programmes. Key outcomes included:
1. The development of a new mathematics group project module for second year Mathematics students which embeds employability skills within the curriculum
2. The introduction of a Maths Ambassador module, allowing students to act as an 'ambassador for Maths' by promoting the subject in schools and by assisting in the newly-formed Peer Assisted Learning scheme in Exeter
3. The promotion of the audit process to other departments and disciplines across the University
In order to promote student-led audits beyong Exeter, an online toolkit has been developed containing all the resources that an institution would require to undertake their own audit. The toolkit can be accessed at:
blogs.exeter.ac.uk/he-stem/toolkit/
Alongside the resources available on the toolkit is information, advice and tips on how to perform a successful audit. The development of the toolkit has been informed not only by the experience of the University of Exeter but also, by the implementation of employability audits at five adopter universities across the country.
