The Hydrographic Academy: Meeting the needs of the workforce and industry through innovative, flexible, online distance learning

Lead Institution: Plymouth University

Outputs > The methodology of collaborative working between industry and academia developed by the Hydrographic Academy

The success of the Hydrographic Academy project has depended on the close working relationships developed between the Hydrographic Academy project team at Plymouth University and the industrial partners, Fugro and the Royal Navy, as well as the professional bodies, the main one being the International Hydrographic Organisation.

One of the reasons that the SW Spoke decided to put forward The Hydrographic Academy for HEFCE funding via the National HE STEM Programme was that that there would be useful learning to share with the wider HE STEM community about the process of developing and maintaining a working relationship of this sort.

This document provides a summary of the Hydrographic Academy’s methodology of collaborative working between academia and industry and the most important lessons learnt about this aspect of the project.
