Access Agreement Case Study

Access Agreement Case Study

As part of the project to develop a south west community of practice in STEM outreach, a study was conducted to look into the ways that universities carry out and evaluate their outreach programmes. Six universities were studied:

  • Bath
  • Bournemouth
  • Bristol
  • Exeter
  • Plymouth
  • University of the West of England

Given the new requirement by the Office for Fair Access (OFFA) for universities charging more than £6,000 in tuition to produce access agreements, it was felt that a comparative analysis of these six universities' access agreement would prove illuminating. Access agreements outline a university's: proposed tuition fee limits; additional access and, where appropriate, retention measures; estimated cost of these measures; targets and milestones; and plans for providing information on financial support for students.

Drawing from the universities' 2012 - 2013 access agreements, the study:

  1. Outlines progress in outreach and widening participation to date
  2. Details how outreach and widening participation activities will be developed into and beyond 2012
  3. Describes the evaluation and monitoring methods used by the universities
