Lead Institution: University of the West of England

This is a sub-project of Progressing from labour market intelligence to HE level provision that is well supported by employers

Project outputs > Employer engagement process checklist

Skills, knowledge and the ability to implement them throughout an individual’s career are immensely valuable to employers.  Rather than relying on internal resource to develop staff, it is logical for employers to look to Higher Education to provide lifelong learning opportunities.  However, it can be difficult for employers to identify what exactly they require from Higher Education, whilst educationalists find it difficult to develop meaningful relationships with employers to enable provision of the correct learning.

Employer engagement process checklist

Employer engagement process checklist

This checklist has been developed to provide guidance for anyone wishing to develop a long term relationship between a Higher Educational Institute (HEI) and an Employer organisation.  It identifies strategic and operational challenges that are likely to be faced during a fledgling project development programme, and offers some simple guidance to mitigate the issues arising.  It is in three parts:

  1. Considering the strategic issues around the planned engagement
  2. Determining the operational aspects
  3. Identifying issues surrounding the delivery of learning to industry.
