Lead Institution: Bournemouth University
Collaborating with: STEMNET, University of Bath, University of the West of England

Project Outputs

The Peer Assisted Learning: In and beyond the classroom project resulted in a range of outputs detailed below:

1. A PAL Literature Review and a Mapping Exercise of PAL across the South West region, which provided context for the project work that followed

2. Two seminars across 2011 and 2012 that pooled together PAL practitioners and experts in forums that allowed the sharing of good practice - An Introduction to PAL and Setting up PAL Schemes

3. The publication of three briefing papers, charting progress of the project and its related Transition project and capturing good practice

4. In-depth interviews with PAL leaders to uncover their perspectives about how provision of PAL supports new first years in their transition to HE. The findings from these interviews have been published in a case study - PAL Leader Perspectives

5. A literature review and report outlining the trialling of online PAL activity at the University of the West of England, capturing the advantages and disadvantages of this model of PAL

6. Guidelines for institutions that are considering PAL and that draw upon the good practice garnered from across the project

7. Establishment of PAL schemes at four other universities - Bradford, Exeter, Liverpool and Plymouth

8. A creative learning journey (CLJ) - a mixed media digital portfolio capturing progress of the project through audio, photography and video means. A precis of the CLJ can be viewed here; the full journey is on the CreativeSTEM website

9. A final report detailing the progress of the project, including challenges met and future sustainability
