Transition & Induction Experiences of WP Students

Lead Institution: Bournemouth University
Collaborating with: STEMNET, University of Bath, University of the West of England

What Next?

The project will have an on-going impact in the following ways:

1. Through the work of those who attended the seminars - Learning from the project will inform the practice of those who engaged with the seminars. Some have already indicated that participation in the seminars has given them the information and confidence they need in order to enhance transition and induction in their institutions. New networks have been made and will be sustained through the LDHEN network.

2. Heightened awareness of transition issues across the SW region - As a result of the project work, more people in the SW region are aware of the support and resources available through the likes of the What Works: Student Retention & Success programme. The guidelines developed from the findings of this project will be helpful in bringing together some broad themes, and practical suggestions, and will point readers to other literature and resources.

3. Promotion of the Maths Cafe model - The project has promoted this model as an effective tool for transition and retention; the cafe established at the University of Bath during the course of the project will be continued into the future.

4. Learning from Do Scientists Really Exist? - The findings from this research have been shared with STEMNET so that learning can be embedded into their work.
