Project Outputs > Guidelines for Transition

The guidelines for enhancing transition and induction support for HE STEM students that can be downloaded below have been built out of reflections on the learning points from the project Transition & Induction Experiences for WP Students. The learning has been drawn from:

  • Regional seminars based on transition
  • A case study (Do Scientists Really Exist?) that interviewed a range of Meet the Scientist and STEM ambassadors to uncover their understandings of young people’s perceptions of science as a real choice for higher level study and career options

The guidelines, full of top tips and recommendations, are organised into 9 sections aimed at supporting those within universities who would like to enhance transition and induction arrangements for STEM students:

  1. Drivers for change
  2. Transition literature
  3. Making a case for enhanced transition to HE STEM programmes
  4. Issues for new first year students
  5. Good transition practice
  6. Developing a sense of belonging
  7. Equality and diversity
  8. Awareness-raising prior to thinking about university
  9. Why HE STEM students leave university

The guidelines can be accessed below:
