Special Interest Group 'Writing and Communicating in STEM Disciplines' > A managing director's view of engineering graduates, April 2012

Keynote presentation by Damien Clancy, Managing Director of a metal processing company, part of UC Rusal, at the Second National Symposium on Academic Writing at the University of Limerick, Ireland, 24 April 2012

Damien Clancy argues that the most intelligent, technically proficient graduates may not be the best fit for many jobs in his company unless they have strong communication skills. What he wants are graduates that have a sound grasp of the discipline and can communicate well – verbally, visually and in writing – with a wide range of people, from different international cultures, and in a wide range of circumstances.
